Jamaica Vacation: Golfing

Golfers who want to hit the links whilst enjoying an all inclusive Jamaica vacation are in luck! Jamaica has some of the top championship golf courses in the Caribbean, laid out by such legendary course designers as Gary Player, Robert Trent Jones Sr., and Ralph Plummer. Montego Bay’s Tryall Golf, Tennis and Beach Club was designed by Ralph Plummer, and it is considered to be one of the world’s top courses. The 71-par, 6920 yard course has hosted the Johnnie Walker World Championship as well as the Jamaica Classic.

Montego Bay is also home to the Half Moon Golf, Tennis and Beach Club. The 72 par, 7119 yard course was laid out by Robert Trent Jones Sr., and is well-known for its beautiful but tricky design, its undulating greens, challenging drives, demanding holes, and its spectacular vistas. A number of championships have been held there, including the Jamaican Open and the Red Stripe Pro-Am. The Ritz-Carlton Golf and Spa Resort, located on the grounds of the Rose Hall Plantation, features the White Witch – Jamaica’s newest golf course, named for Annie Palmer (the witch of Rose Hall). This 71 par, 6718 yard course was designed by Rick Baril and Robert von Hagge, and offers breathtaking views of the Caribbean Sea.

Wyndham Rose Hall Golf and Beach Resort’s Three Palms Ocean Course was named one of the world’s top five golf courses, and it has been the site of the Jamaica Open and other all inclusive Jamaica vacations invitational tournaments. This par 72, 6598 yard course is famous for its challenging seaside and mountain layout, and its wicked eighth hole which doglegs onto a promontory jutting 200 yards out to sea. The fifteenth hole is beside a waterfall which was featured in one of the James Bond movies. Cinnamon Hill Ocean Course spans four hundred lush acres between the shimmering Caribbean Sea and the majestic Jamaican Mountains.

Negril Hills Golf Club is known as a very fast course, and is distinguished by its lush, tropical greenery, its elevated greens and tees, and its undulating fairways flanked by water hazards. This par 72, 6333 yard course was designed by Robert Simmons, and is known for its fifth hole, which doglegs 90° to the left. This a 427 yard par 4 hole which calls for accurate drives – far enough to see the green, but short of a marsh filled with chest-high reeds on the outside corner. Another great Jamaica vacation golf experience is offered by SuperClubs Runaway Bay 9-hole executive course (on the grounds) and its PGA-rated 18-hole course (located 25 minutes away). Transportation, green fees, and professional instruction are all included. Other great Jamaican courses include Montego Bay’s SuperClubs Golf Club (formerly Ironshore, located 45 minutes from the Grand Lido Braco Resort & Spa), Sandals Golf and Country Club, Kingston’s Caymanas, and the oldest course in Jamaica, Mandeville’s Manchester Club.

Jamaica Beaches – The Place To Consider Some Famous Jamaicans!

Jamaica Beaches are a great place for contemplation, if you can factor in the weather, the gorgeous local bikini clad population that cover the sand and the head bobbing Reggae music that seems to follow you wherever you go: and did I mention the rum punch!

When your laying on your favorite Jamaican beach, surveying your surroundings, you would not be surprised to learn that this small island has produced not one but three, yes three, Miss World winners.

Of course, those of us, lucky enough to have spent some time on these awesome beaches are more than surprised that it has only been three: I counted dozens of possibles, the last time I visited Negril. Ocho Rios produced another dozen candidates and the local ladies playing in the water at Bluefields, well you get the idea.

This is not so amazing, of course, when you consider that such personalities as Naomi Campbell and Grace Jones hail from Jamaican backgrounds. This island produces some beautiful, and some, eventually famous, people.

Harry Belafonte and Desmond Dekker for example, didn’t do so badly in the music and entertainment industry. Linford Christie and Donovan Bailey certainly made their marks in the world of sport: especially at the Olympics. In fact Jamaica is quite well known for it’s track and field performers, as well as it’s cricketers and boxers.

Which reminds me not to forget to add in the famous (or is that infamous?) Jamaican Bobsled team: a real team that captured the hearts of many at the winter Olympics and ended up on the silver screen. These guys started from very humble beginnings but they had a dream, a great desire and with a great deal of hard work, they were successful.

But possibly the most famous Jamaican of them all has to be Robert Nesta Marley, the impoverished boy of mixed parentage who rose to become not only a reggae musician of world renown but, with the added dreadlocks, a symbol of the Rastafarian faith.

You can’t escape the music of this famous Jamaican, it seems to be everywhere, it seems to be the soul of the island. You can visit the Bob Marley museum and his mausoleum in Nine-Miles, and the head bobbing rhythms will follow you.

Yes, as you lay back and catch the rays, with your Rum and Ginger in your hand, think about the many famous Jamaicans that this small tropical island in the Caribbean has produced and what a strong influence these characters have had on their world surroundings. Don Quarrie, Patrick Ewing, Asafa Powell and Jimmy Cliff to name but a few more. The list is very long, too long for one beach, your going to have to visit another!

Jamaica beaches are famous around the world, just like many of the people that this amazing little island has produced, and while you spend the days dreamily contemplating your navel, you have the time and relaxed mood to examine these finer points of Jamaican culture: well, before the evening beach festival starts anyway!

Your missing out on a famous experience. You need to go see for yourself mon!

Ocho Rios, Jamaica is a Lovely, Natural Paradise With Lots to Do and See

If you want a vacation in a lush, tropical location; try the town of Ocho Rios in Jamaica. On the coast, the town has much to do and see. From big resorts, to smaller, privately-owned garden styled hotels, it has something for everyone from souvenir hunters to scuba divers. The crystal-clear, vividly turquoise water of the Caribbean Sea is breathtaking. Or hire a driver and go inland to see the deep jungles and gorgeous countryside. Jamaica is pure paradise. Here are some ideas on where to go on your trip.

Dunn’s River Falls

Every day, tourists climb a natural rock formation whose river empties into the sea, called Dunn’s River Falls. It is a great way to cool off in the hot sun. For those who don’t want to climb, there is a path along the falls to walk up to the top. Nature is all around, and hear the tropical birds squawk in the trees as you walk through this lovely site.

Shaw Park Gardens

If you love flowers, go to this large botanical garden on a hill overlooking Ocho Rios. There you will see huge Banyan trees, with multiple trunks spread out everywhere. Colorful flowers such as towering bougainvillea vines surround you along with other breathtaking scenery such as waterfalls and lush jungle meadows. Look down on the coastline, and take photos of the sea from way up high. It is a nature photographer’s paradise.

The market

Get your dickering skills in order and go over to the public market. Here, you are expected to talk the vendors down in price for everything from hair braiding to t-shirts. Buy a rum-filled coconut that is cut open with a machete right in front of you. Watching this is interesting all in itself. If you have new items you want to barter, take them with you and see if you can strike a deal with the dealers who sell in various outside booths. It is a lively and fun place. Expect many people to ask if they can braid your hair into cornrows. I had them do a French braid on me, for hardly any money. American money goes very far as of this writing, in Jamaica. Check out the hand-carved wooden sculptures by local artisans. The craftsmanship and elegance is amazing, of subjects such as fish, flowers, birds and more. My suitcase was filled with them by the end of my trip. Prices are reasonable, and even moreso if you are a good bargain-negotiator.

Take a snorkeling or scuba tour

Go to a dive store or inquire at your hotel where to find a good snorkeling tour. There are reefs everywhere down in Jamaica, full of tropical fish of all sizes, colors and shapes. It’s like swimming in an aquarium. The skilled divers know where the best coral sites are, and will take you in their boat to them. It is amazing to see the majestic “gardens” of coral all around you, growing as if they were flowers. Bring a disposable underwater camera to capture memories of this exotic venture. The experience is surreal and fun. Just make sure to wear strong sunscreen or you will get a lobster-red sunburn very easily.

Shopping and dining in the shop district

In Ocho Rios, there are a variety of stores from high-end to low-budget. They are all interesting and offer great souvenirs. If you love coffee, buy the Jamaican Blue-Mountain coffee there, which is much cheaper than it is in the U.S., where it can cost $50 per pound, easily. Buy spices at local stores, such as curry powder or jerk seasoning. Jerk chicken is a spicy dish found all over Jamaica. It is delicious, just make to eat it with a pitcher of water by your side.

Some of the best restaurants are understated and out-of-the-way. Ten years ago, when I was there, there was a small place called Blue Cantina near the Hibiscus Lodge (the garden-style hotel I stayed at.) The Blue Cantina has great food for cheap prices. Try the fried plantains, served as a side-dish, they are to die for. They make wonderful tacos. The restaurant in the Hibiscus Lodge is a good place for breakfast, too. It is terraced, and overlooks the ocean, with amond trees branching over your head. I always ate outside there. The wait staff are professional and serve great fruit and pastries.

In general, going to Ocho Rios, Jamaica is great if you want to get away from regular city life and try something more natural. If you have time, have a taxi take you to other towns and cities as well. There is much to see in the country island of Jamaica. Have a Pina Colada, sit back and soak in that glorious Caribbean sunshine. It truly is paradise.

Layaway Travel Plans – What’s Your Ultimate Dream Vacation?

Layaway travel plans hold the answers to making that dream vacation into reality. There are so many ways where you can enjoy the benefits of this payment plan, like spending your honeymoon at a romantic destination or taking your family on a Disneyland trip. And if you plan ahead, the more chances you have to make the most out of layaway travel plans.

You probably know the drill about layaway travel plans by now. It normally involves choosing a vacation package plan that you want, and then pay an initial deposit to start the planning process. The remaining balance would be spread out over a certain period, like a bi-weekly or monthly payment. There are no interest rates or -it simply works at your own pace and convenience.

So, how do you go about to experiencing the greatest vacation of your life? Finding a reputable travel agency is a good place to start. A great travel agency would mean that they’re legit (that will take a diligent background check), their layaway policy works to your advantage, and they carry the best travel consultants and packages. Their consultants should be able to guide you through the whole process and find you the best deals on the vacation you want.

Almost every family dreams of a Disney vacation, which is quite hard to save up for. That’s a fact that most people have probably lamented over and over again. It’s also really hard to find a travel company that offers a layaway for this – well, except for Disney cruises. Fortunately, Disneyworld offers a somewhat layaway payment plan – it is not really officially called like that, but it still works the same way as any travel layaways out there.

This Disneyworld “layaway” payment plan all takes place online. You should buy the packages directly from their official website. After you’ve signed up and created an account, you can go ahead and pay for the $200 or 10% initial deposit (there’s no interest rates or extra charges for signing up) at the time of booking. After that, you have the freedom to pay as much as you want and any time that’s convenient to you. The only thing that you have to keep in mind is that you have to pay for the whole amount 45 days before the trip.

Your Disneyworld account profile will help you know the status of your payment activities. You can also pay for the vacation through this site. If you think about it, this payment plan might not be technically termed as layaway, but you’ll still enjoy the same benefits of not spending for the whole vacation on the spot.

There’s really no reason why you can’t take that well-deserved vacation today. All you need to do is to look at the right places for the solution – like in places where you can take advantage of great layaway travel plans.

5 Top Travel Tips For the Best Jamaica Vacations

Jamaica is a unique place with a mystique and allure unlike any other Caribbean Island. Jamaica vacations are popular for people from all over the world who want to experience the culture and lifestyle or at least what they believe those things to be.

Travel to Jamaica is a wonderful way to enjoy a vacation and each year more and more people visit “The Land of Woods and Water” for some fun in the sun. Jamaica is unique in many ways and the popular idea of a laid back “No Problem Mon” attitude for everyone can lead to issues for some visitors.

In order to help make your vacation a little nicer we are going to list a number of top tips and advice for Jamaica vacations for anyone from a first time visitor to a long time friend.

Tip #1

Bring your camera and use it wisely

Everyone loves a vacation but often times many of us are having so much fun we neglect to record it on film or camera and as time passes so do those wonderful memories. A digital camera with enough batteries and memory cards to cover you time here can help create and maintain a lifetime of good memories but be careful. Everyone may like looking at your pictures of Jamaica but not every Jamaican wants their photo taken. Be kind and ask before taking photos of people in public. Be polite and honest and you should have no problem but on occasion you will find someone who is adamant you not take their photo and its just better to ask then offend.

Tip #2

Plan your trip before you arrive and verify everything

Jamaica is a great place for a spur of the moment vacation and you can easily visit the island with little or no planning at all but in order to best enjoy your Jamaican vacation we suggest you lay out some basic plans for how to spend your time along with the more important things to do in any for of itinerary you think you need. You do not have to over plan your vacation but it is certainly wise to organize some aspects including accommodations, transportation and tours. Things change often in Jamaica and the wonderful bed and breakfast you stayed at on your first visit may not be the same place it was just 2 years later. Proper planning can help avoid these type of disappointments and make for a better vacation experience. Some of us get so into the laid back lifestyle we never leave the hotel and we end up not doing half the stuff we wanted to and that leads to regrets and hopefully more trips but a little planning and you can make your tours blend into your airport transfers and make the most of your time in Jamaica.

Tip #3

When in Jamaica, do as Jamaicans do!

Everyone has their idea of the perfect vacation and we would never judge your vacation preferences but many visitors to Jamaica miss out on the wonderful cultural experiences of the “Real Jamaica” outside the walls of the all inclusive resorts and far away from the “Fake Jamaica” some of these places offer. There is nothing wrong with wanting to enjoy the beautiful facilities of these walled fortresses but take a day or two to enjoy life outside the compound. Book a tour with a local Jamaican or drop into a local Jamaican restaurant and dine like Jamaicans do. The real beauty of Jamaica can only be found by living Jamaican.

Tip #4

Respect yourself and others, mon

A vacation is often a well deserved break we give ourselves each year and sometimes some of us take the well deserved part a little too serious. Some people come to Jamaica with the idea that someone owes them something. These people act as if the world is theirs and the people around them are there to do whatever ridiculous request they can come up with because “I’m on vacation”. It’s an attitude like that which will lead to a horrible vacation. treating people like slaves in a country with such a horrible history of slavery won’t get you very far no matter what you paid them.

Tip #5

Buy Jamaican Build Jamaica

Jamaica is a part of what was once called the Third World. The politically correct phrase is developing nation these days but the harsh reality of the economic conditions make it feel like another world in many ways. Jamaica is a beautiful country with a wealth of natural resources and beauty but things are not good for the average Jamaican. Tourism is the driving force in the Jamaican economy but very few Jamaicans own the large prosperous hotels and resorts. most Jamaicans work for the tourism industry as drivers, maids, servants and entertainment staff and hospitality jobs are about the only legal way any Jamaican has to make money on the tourist that arrive here. If you have the opportunity to do so we suggest you travel to Jamaica and live with Jamaicans. Find a local resort or hotel that is Jamaican owned and spend your money with a business that will keep that money in country.

When you are in Jamaica take a chance and spend some time with Jamaican people and spend your money in local craft markets restaurants whenever possible so that your valued tourist dollars make it into the community at large. Jamaicans will appreciate it and build a better Jamaica.

There are a slew of other tips and advice one can take with them on their Jamaica vacation but these five will make it a great vacation for you and Jamaica.
